American Kids Abducted
News March 2009: NJ Dad has given an update - and he needs your help. Be sure to read how just a few minutes of your time can help bring his child home to the USA.
AKA Missing (American Kids Abducted) is a non-profit organization consisting mainly of volunteers.
We exist to help U.S. citizen parents who have had their child abducted by a spouse or other family member and taken from the United States, the "left behind parent", to pursue their legal rights to a relationship with their child.
International child abductions and the ensuing emotional trauma, legal expenses, bureaucratic red tape, etc. can literally become overwhelming. We are here to help, this is not a battle to be in alone.
We seek to raise public awareness of such abductions; each year thousands of children are taken from this country under these circumstances, U.S. citizens taken against their will. They are our sons, daughters, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, neighbors, friends and classmates. When one person is missing it affects us all. The public must know.
We desire to encourage changes within United States government policy that will make child abduction and subsequent illegal exit out of our country much more difficult. We look to support the implementation of suggested changes to the Hague Convention statutes by the National Center for Missing and Exploited children research.
The Hague Convention applies to wrongful removals or retentions of children. All countries that have signed this treaty have agreed that a child who is habitually a resident in one country and is removed to another country is in violation of the left-behind parent's custodial rights. Application must be made within one year from the date of illegal removal, and some exceptions apply to the return. Note: Interpretation of these exceptions varies from country to country, as does a willingness to comply. Each Country is "graded" annually by the State Department for violations and/or compliances.
